Transit by Stephen Dedman appeared in the March 1998 issue of Isaac Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine and features a Muslim girl making an interstellar Hajj journey as the love interest of the main character, a youthful citizen of a planet of secular hermaphrodites. The story focuses on this outstanding clash of cultures, ideas, and norms.
