The main character Ramstan is the captain of the space ship, fitted with alaraf drive which allows instantaneous travel between two points in space. There are only three of these space ships which were built to explore and make contact with the many sentient races inhabiting the universe. One of the ships and it is discovered that a creature is annihilating intelligent life on planet after planet. Ramstan is determined to destroy this menace. The main character , the captain is a Muslim and the name of the spaceship al-buraq is inspired from islamic traditions, it is the name of the being on whom Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is believed to have ascended to the heavens according the Muslim traditions.
